Upper Catawba Falls, North Carolina

 

BEWARE:  The climb from Lower to Upper Catawba Falls is difficult and potentially dangerous even in dry weather.  We cannot recommend visiting these falls until safer access is established.  (On the other hand, the hike along the Catawba River just to the Lower Falls is one of the most beautiful and peaceful in NC -- please see some of the images from our trip in February.)

As luck would have it, once we finally made it to the Upper with our heavy packs,   I (with the assistance of gravity) "decided" to see if my Canon SLR was water-proof (it wasn't .... ) -- so the above image was taken with my trusty cellphone.
